I fell in love with my best friend but he didn’t love me
back.
Sounds like a cheesy line from a country song, right? Too
bad it’s the story of my life.
I thought that I’d moved on, swore he was the one.
But that facade began to fade in the flash of a half-carat
diamond ring.
Now years later, here I am, running back to the boy who broke
my adolescent heart, hoping that just maybe, he’ll be the one to piece it back
together.
…. I fell in love with my best friend while she fell in love
with him.

Ironically, it was my own damn fault. I practically served
her up on a silver platter.
So I turned to my second love, basketball, moving across the
country to escape.
For years, I’ve been sitting on the sidelines watching,
waiting.
Now it’s time to make my move.
No more fouling out.
This time, I’m going to score.
My Review
So we all know how I feel about reading books by authors that I have never read before. I am not even sure what it was that drew me to this one. It could have been the cover – lets face it it’s bloody awesome, or it could have been the fact it was a sports book or even that it was a friends to lovers book. I have take a few chances lately on new to me authors and very few of them have paid off. I mean this to the extent that I wasn’t going to bother any more unless it was an author that came highly recommended from someone that I trust. Breakaway though has thankfully restored my faith and thanks to Heather M. Orgeron I will keep taking chances on those authors that I have yet to read.
I absolutely loved the build up in this story. How it started way back showing us snippets of when they were little and a window into how and when their feelings towards each other began to change and just how damn confusing that was for them at the time. Not that the confusion ebbed much over time. No it stayed and was joined by guilt, regret, jealousy and wonder.
A beautifully written book with the perfect recipe of angst, drama and sweetness. An absolutely fantastic couple on their journey of discovery.
My only problem with this book is that it is a standalone. I really think Blex and Finn would make absolutely amazing main characters!
