I’m in love with a man who tried to kill me. At least that’s what they tell me . . .

Six weeks ago, paramedics found me unconscious in my own home. Beaten. Bruised. Hardly breathing. When I woke up, I couldn’t remember the last three years or anything about my life in Jackson Harbor. They tell me my fiancé, Colton McKinley, is on the run for what he did to me. They tell me I’m safer if I stay away.

I don’t care if my memories ever come back. I want nothing to do with those missing years . . . until a sexy stranger with angry eyes shows up on my doorstep and demands I stop ignoring him.

Levi Jackson is my fiancé’s best friend, but seeing him sparks something inside me. As the truth unravels in my mind, I know they’re wrong about Colton. My own secrets are far more dangerous than the man I was engaged to.

I return to Jackson Harbor to search for answers and find myself running from a faceless boogeyman and seeking refuge in Levi’s arms. And in his bed.

I can’t deny my feelings for Levi. But as the pile of lies between us grows, I realize that sometimes the truth can’t set us free. It may be the very thing that could destroy us.

“May I get you something to drink while you wait for the rest of your party?” the waiter asked.
I would normally wait to see what the client did and follow his lead on alcohol. But tonight was not the norm.

I rubbed at my stiff neck. “I’ll take a vodka cranberry, please.”

I hoped it would help calm my nerves and release some of the tension in my jaw before I gave myself a full-blown headache. Taking out my phone, I started to scroll through emails to distract myself while waiting for my drink and dinner companion.

My head whipped up at the sound of Gray’s voice behind me. “Sorry I’m late.”

My heart unexpectedly fluttered, and I fought against the feeling of excitement. “Are you really? Because I get the sense you don’t have any manners after the way you interrupted me a million times today.”

He completely ignored my attitude as he took the seat across from me. “Traffic is a bitch getting downtown at this time. Next time we’ll have dinner at my place.”

“There won’t be a next time.”

Gray’s mouth curved into a smug smile as he snagged my gaze. “Sure there will. There’ll be plenty of next times. And eventually you’ll stop pretending you don’t enjoy my company.”

I hated that my body reacted to him. Right from the very start, we’d had a crazy chemistry between us that was difficult to dull.

I sighed. “What are you doing, Gray? Why did you come to my firm?”

He lifted the cloth napkin in front of him and laid it across his lap. “Isn’t that obvious? I need new legal representation.”

“At my firm? And you’d prefer that representation come from an associate instead of my boss’s boss—the head of our securities division? Or even from Pittman, who would gladly hold your hand and provide you whatever legal advice you need from his fifty-plus years of experience?”

“Loyalty is important to me. I want someone I can trust with my business.”

“And you’ve decided that’s me? An associate with five years experience who just got off probation with the Bar Association for violating attorney-client privilege?”
The waiter arrived with my drink. “Here you go, ma’am.” He turned to Gray. “May I get you something to drink? Or would you like to wait until the last of your party joins you this evening?”

“It’s just the two of us. I’ll have a Macallan, neat, please.”

“Coming right up.” The waiter walked around to the other side of the table and started to remove the third place setting.

I put my hand out, stopping him. “We actually do have another party coming, so you can leave that.”

“Very well.” He nodded.

Gray waited until the waiter was out of earshot. “I didn’t invite anyone else to dinner.”

I sipped my drink and offered a saccharine-sweet fake smile. “I did. Figured an important client like you should have more than one attorney to answer his questions.”

Just as I set down my glass, I saw the other man I was waiting for enter the restaurant. He scanned the room, looking for me, so I held up my hand and waved.

“Perfect timing. There’s Oliver now.”

Gray glanced at the man heading toward us and back to me. Instead of being pissed off, the jerk was amused. “That’s cute. You invited a chaperone because you don’t trust yourself with me.”

My husband and I know how to fight. We perfected the art when running against each other for Congress. But that fighting revealed a passion for each other that we couldn’t deny. And again, we find ourselves drawn to do what we do best. I won’t be controlled, even by the man who owns my heart. Consequence of rejection release blitz

Title: The Consequence of Rejection
A Standalone Consequence Novel
Author: Rachel Van Dyken
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: March 26, 2018

Blurb

You know the
universe is trying to tell you something when you get struck by lightning, but
only after getting hit on by the elderly, almost getting run over by a semi,
and running into the one who got away.
Why do they say it like that anyway?
Like I accidentally lost her when she was the one that got in the car with my
best friend and left me.
The day after I proposed.
We were eighteen.
I wanted forever.
She didn’t.
It’s been ten years.
I tried to move on, tried to get married, had that same wedding crashed by my
now best friend who says the only way for me to stop pissing off the universe,
is to gain closure with the one woman I can’t forget.
So I do it.
I embark on a journey down memory lane that not only lands me in prison but on
the receiving end of a fist fight in front of the entire town, this naturally
happens after drunken pool sex, climbing the same girl’s window, and getting
threatened at gunpoint by her father.
To say the universe is trying to tell me something anything, is a giant
understatement.
I just hope I survive the message.
And then, I hope I survive her—again.

Full breasts spilled over into a small black bikini that
left nothing to the imagination, it barely covered nipple for that matter, and
the bottoms? Well she had to keep adjusting them lets just say high school
bathing suits ten years later look small.
In the best way possible.
Head held high she walked right by me to Max, grabbed a
shot, took it, then sucked the lime he held out in front of her.
I growled.
Max winked at me. “Something wrong, man?”
I reached for the non existent gun at my side, which just
made him grin harder as he kept handing out alcohol to parents of
toddlers.
Because thats the type of party it was.
Almost everyone started talking about their kids,
retirement, stock portfolios, vacation time, and babies.
It was almost too depressing for words.
I had all those things but what I’d always wanted. A family.
Babies.
Maddy.
She shared a sideway’s glance with me.
I reached for her, but she pulled away and ran full speed
towards the pool and did a giant canon ball.
People cheered.
While I watched as wet cold water ran down her curvy body,
my gaze was so tranfixed on her erect nipples I’m surprised nobody pulled me
aside about my current situation of arousal.
Cold water. Fast.
I chased after her, jumped in.
And felt the warm buzz of alcohol fill my veins just as I
popped up and saw Max follow, balls first, in my face.
I ducked just in time so I didn’t get a fist full of
balls.
The guy only laughed once we both popped up.
I swam towards Maddy, and tugged her against me. “Stop
running.”
“I’m not.” Her breath came out raspy. “I’m just…reliving old
times, isn’t that what you wanted? So we could have closure?”
Why did it feel like she was turning the tables on me.
“Yeah,” I said slowly, “But—“
Her kiss was swift.
Hard.
Fast, and oh so very punishing as I gaped into her mouth and
pinned her against he side of the pool.
Music filled the air out of nowhere from somewhere outside,
it pounded into my ears the way I wanted to pound into her.
I grinned against her mouth as she wrapped her legs around
my waist.
And then Reid cast a shadow over us and started pouring
vodka over our heads.
Maddy tilted her head back and opened her mouth while I
leaned in and licked it off her chin.
People cheered.
“Guys!” Someone yelled. “Keep it down, someones going to
call the cops!”
“Cops?” Max laughed loudly. “I am the law, bitches!” The
music blared. “Plus, we already got our cop here.” He pointed while I took
another shot.
People cheered.
And then Maddy squeezed her thighs.
Yeah the cops were coming alright.

Title: Playmaker
A Breakaway Novel
Author: L.P. Dover
Genre: Sports Romance
Publisher: Loveswept/Random House
Release Date: February 27, 2018

Blurb

He knows every play in the book. But she’s calling the
shots.

I’m Maddox Ledger, all-star winger and the reason the Charlotte Strikers killed
it in the playoffs. Yeah, the tabloids like to call me arrogant. A real
hothead. All I see is a guy who plays to win. Wreaking havoc on the ice,
breaking a few hearts—that’s all just part of the game. And I’m sure as hell
not sitting on the bench.

When my teammate asks me to be in his wedding party, I can’t refuse. Lucky for
me, the bridesmaid I’m paired with is the definition of eye candy, but she’s so
much more than that. Lacey Easton is totally irresistible and she makes me want
to be a better man. A glimpse of bare shoulder takes me back to a steamy,
two-week Vegas tryst I can’t forget. One I’m eager to repeat.

Suddenly our one-night stand is turning into the sequel. Still, Lacey’s keeping
secrets. She doesn’t trust me. And maybe I deserve it. But I know more than she
thinks I do and there’s no chance I’m letting her get away—or letting another
guy take what is mine. This time, I’m playing for keeps.

“And we’ll
be right back,” Maddox announced, grabbing my wrist.
He pulled
me away, and I went willingly with him. I glanced back at Braeden and he
started toward us, but I shook my head, stopping him midstep. Maddox turned the
corner, his eyes burning like fire.
“I thought
I could get through this, but I can’t. I’m so fucking tired of the lies. I know
who you are, Lacey.”
My heart
stopped. I pretended to be stupid. “Of course, you know who I am. Stop being
silly. We need to get back to the wedding.”
He stepped
closer, caging me against the wall, with his lips so close to mine. “No,” he
growled low. “I mean, I know who you are . . . Paige.” Keeping his eyes on
mine, he glided a hand down my bare back and reached inside my dress, circling
his fingers around my strawberry birthmark. My whole body broke out in chills.
“Did you seriously think I wouldn’t recognize you?”
“Took you
long enough,” I snapped.
“Oh, I knew
who you were right after you left me in Vegas.” My mouth dropped. “Yeah, that’s
right, sunshine. A well-paid private investigator can find out anything.”

I Wanna Text You Up by Teagan Hunter

Title: I Wanna Text You Up
Author: Teagan Hunter
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: February 1, 2018
When I put up a ROOMMATE WANTED poster, he was the last person on earth I thought would respond.
He was also the last person on earth I’d agree to let live with me…on purpose.
But, here we are—roommates. I’m certain we can coexist without it being awkward, and I’m determined to make it work. There will be no sexual tension building with each accidental touch, no flutters when he wears that stupid backward baseball cap, and definitely no flirting when we text back and forth.
Caleb Mills can’t be the guy for me. He’s my best friend’s ex-boyfriend.
And that would be wrong…right?

My Review

Oh wow. I don’t even know where to start with this book. I a a brand new fan of Teagan Hunter. This is only the second book that I have read from here. I don’t usually read funny books, I tend to read everything in a serious tone. I am there reading this book and saying to myself “I know I am meant to be laughing at this”, but it just doesn’t register.  One day I just couldn’t get into anything  and loads of my book buddies in ‘The Locker Room'(Facebook group for fans of sports romance aka best book group ever) were highly recommending Let’s Get Textual so I gave in and read it and a fan was born.
Annnnyway I jumped at the chance to read ‘I Wanna Text You Up’. I didn’t even cop that it was a follow up to LGT until I started reading it – because I go in blind, no blurb and no teasers, so as soon as I realised that then my excitement grew even more. Oh My God, I haven’t laughed so much since, well probably since I read Let’s Get Textual. Teagan Hunter is one of the very few authors that can male me laugh. Even my husbag was giving me the side eye because I was laughing – it is a well known fact in my family that i don’t ‘do’ comedy. However this book didn’t just make me laugh, it made me spit my coffee, snort and maybe, just maybe pee myself just a little bit.
Right from the very first page of IWTYU i was just hooked. It was absolutely hilarious and the characters were fantastic. Zoe and Caleb have amazing chemistry and just bounce off each other. It was such an effortless read, everything seemed so natural. Of course it wasn’t all fun and game it had just enough drama to make the perfect recipe.
Add in all the text exchanges!  I am an absolute sucker for books with a lot of written exchange – be in text message, email or letters. A book that I am loving anyway which has lots of this – makes my damn day!
January was a pretty slow book month for me, not a lot hit the spot. However, I Wanna Text You Up didn’t just hit the spot, it hammered it home. I cannot wait to see what is next from Teagan Hunter

“I Wanna Text You Up was an incredibly sweet, sexy, hilarious, and highly entertaining standalone romantic comedy, and I absolutely loved it!” – Julia – *The Romance Bibliophile*

“I Wanna Text You Up was a sweet, sexy and hilariously laughable romantic comedy.” – Aurora *Whoo Gives A Hoot*

“Ms. Hunter definitely has a way with words and has easily become one of my favorite authors!” – Amanda Mann *Rabid Readers Book Blog*

Hey Whiskey by Kaylee Ryan

Title: Hey, Whiskey
Author: Kaylee Ryan

Genre: New Adult

Release Date: January 9, 2018

Blurb
I’m over this year, and I’m over relationships.  I’ve
learned that the only person you can count on in life is yourself.  Moving
forward, I’m living for me.  Working toward standing on my own two feet,
that’s my goal.  Funny how meeting him changed my path.
It’s been years since I’ve been back in this small town of
West Virginia for more than a day or two.  Spending time here brings back
a lot of fond memories.  When I stopped by an old friend’s bar, I was
expecting to grab a drink and catch up.  What I didn’t expect was her.
We share an undeniable attraction, but we continue to fight
it.
Until one night in Vegas changes everything.

 My Review

Kaylee Ryan, for me, is one of those authors that is absolutely fail safe. She has never (in my oh so important opinion) written a less than fantastic chapter never mind book. I need to know no more than she has written the book and that alone will ensure that I read it. Reading it always leads to loving it. Always.

Hey, Whiskey was no different. Not even a little bit. It was amazing. I was actually in a reading slump before I began to read it. I fell in love with the characters immediately. I got immersed in their world, could feel the atmosphere in the books and left reality behind

It can be hard to come across characters or plot lines that haven’t been done before. In general, as long as the author puts their spin on it, I don’t really mind. Saylor and Rhett though were refreshing. I didn’t feel like I had read them before. They were a fantastic pair and I really enjoyed them. They both made me laugh and by God my eyes were leaking – again. I am not sure if Kaylee Ryan has written a book that hasn’t caused a tear or two.

Rhett is handsome, charming and really lovable. I mean who isn’t a sucker for a man who loves his grandpa! Saylor is smart, strong, funny, confident and a real spitfire. Their chemistry together was just perfect. Such an easy read as always. My only complaint is that it ended!

Author: Heather M. Orgeron
Genre: NA/Friends-to-Lovers
Release Date: November 9, 2017
Blurb
I fell in love with my best friend but he didn’t love me
back.
Sounds like a cheesy line from a country song, right? Too
bad it’s the story of my life.
I thought that I’d moved on, swore he was the one.
But that facade began to fade in the flash of a half-carat
diamond ring.
Now years later, here I am, running back to the boy who broke
my adolescent heart, hoping that just maybe, he’ll be the one to piece it back
together.
…. I fell in love with my best friend while she fell in love
with him.

Ironically, it was my own damn fault. I practically served
her up on a silver platter.
So I turned to my second love, basketball, moving across the
country to escape.
For years, I’ve been sitting on the sidelines watching,
waiting.
Now it’s time to make my move.
No more fouling out.
This time, I’m going to score.
My Review
So we all know how I feel about reading books by authors that I have never read before. I am not even sure what it was that drew me to this one. It could have been the cover – lets face it it’s bloody awesome, or it could have been the fact it was a sports book or even that it was a friends to lovers book. I have take a few chances lately on new to me authors and very few of them have paid off. I mean this to the extent that I wasn’t going to bother any more unless it was an author that came highly recommended from someone that I trust. Breakaway though has thankfully restored my faith and thanks to Heather M. Orgeron I will keep taking chances on those authors that I have yet to read.
I absolutely loved the build up in this story. How it started way back showing us snippets of when they were little and a window into how and when their feelings towards each other began to change and just how damn confusing that was for them at the time. Not that the confusion ebbed much over time. No it stayed and was joined by guilt, regret, jealousy and wonder.
A beautifully written book with the perfect recipe of angst, drama and sweetness. An absolutely fantastic couple on their journey of discovery.
My only problem with this book is that it is a standalone. I really think Blex and Finn would make absolutely amazing main characters!

He’s got every reason to be cocky . . . until a female
cuts him down to size.

I’m Dallas Easton, the best goaltender in the league. I make a damn good living
playing hockey, and with women falling at my feet wherever I go, why not enjoy
it? I get whatever I want, whenever I want—that is, until I come across the one
player who gets the best of me on the ice.

When I try to pummel the dude, all hell breaks loose. Imagine my surprise when
the helmet comes off to reveal a woman underneath. And not just any woman, but
the sexiest woman I’ve ever seen. Callie Davis is the complete opposite of the
puck bunnies I usually go for, a good girl with sick moves and a selfless
streak a mile wide. I need to make amends, but she dodges me at every turn. It
doesn’t help that Callie’s brother hates my guts, or that my agent thinks she’s
bad for my career.

But I could care less what they think. I can’t let our little run-in on the ice
be the end of our story. Because when I set my sights on something, I won’t
rest until I score.

Excerpt

Heart pounding, I
stared him down, waiting for him to take the shot. The second he drew back his
stick, I got into position, only for him to hit me right between the eyes with
his glove. For a split second I lost my focus, and he slapped the puck right between
my legs.
“Motherfucker,” I
growled, glaring down at the glove on the ice and the puck in the goal. The
worthless cunt actually had the audacity to throw his glove at my face. Kellan
burst out laughing and the whole rink echoed as they cheered at my expense. Red
just fucked up big time.

The others tried
their luck to no avail, and then Red was back at it. I waited for him to throw
the other glove, but instead, he turned and sprayed ice right up into my face,
his body colliding with mine. During our fall, he hit the puck right into the
goal. Rage coursed through my veins and all I could see was red . . .
literally. Getting up quickly, he started back toward the others and I slid out
my stick, hooking it around his ankle. I jerked him back and he fell. If he
wanted to play dirty, I’d show him how dirty I could be. He tried to get up,
but I pushed him back down, tossing my mask and gloves onto the ice. The others
shouted and skated toward us, but I wasn’t letting Red get away with making me
out to be a fool.

“Think you’re hot
shit now, huh?” I spat, grabbing him by the jersey. He was smaller than me, so
it wasn’t hard to flip him over and rip off his mask. Blinded by rage, I pulled
my fist back, only to stop cold in my tracks. I stared at the face behind the
mask, completely transfixed.

The person lying on
the ice wasn’t Justin’s brother. It was a woman, and not just any woman. She
was the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen. Before any words could escape my
lips, Justin tackled me to the ice and my breath whooshed out of my lungs as we
slid to the wall.

“What the fuck is
your problem? That’s my sister,” he shouted angrily. Eyes darkening, he slammed
my shoulders against the wall.

Catching my breath,
I looked up at him and held up my hands. “I didn’t know it was a female. I
wouldn’t have touched her if I’d known.” Under most circumstances, I’d have
punched him and been done, but I felt like a tool.

His nostrils flared.
“You’re such a prick.”

“Justin,” his sister
called out. We both looked over at her as Kellan and the other two guys helped
her up. They all stared daggers at me, including her. “Let’s go.”

Justin pushed off of
me and skated over to her. I got one last look at her angelic face and emerald
green eyes before she turned around and disappeared off the ice.
