What it’s all about

Jane Black has written the break-up album of the century, earning her a Grammy, a huge legion of new fans, and the pressure to repeat her success. Sure, the heartbreak from her husband’s unconventional abandonment might have been her inspiration, but it hasn’t done her any favors in the dating department. So when Matthew Harrigan, the toughest music journalist out there, asks for an interview, Jane agrees—as long as her personal life is completely off-limits.

British, gorgeous, and way too tempting, Matthew’s the first guy Jane’s been attracted to since her husband. As she spends more time with him and their relationship heats up, though, so does her writer’s block. How can the queen of the break-up pen the perfect follow-up when she’s seriously in love?

Maid of Dishonor

Maid of Dishonor

Maid of Dishonor

When she’s very, very bad……

Gina Carrington knows exactly how to have fun! But when she sleeps with her friend’s brother, the off-limits Carter, she quickly discovers she’s overstepped the mark.

……life is so much more fun!

Years later, Gina sees Carter again to prepare for her friend’s wedding, and she can’t help but wonder what the harm would be in one more night…. He’s available, gorgeous and behind that laid-back Southern charm there’s a wild side even she can’t tame! But Gina has secrets which she can’t hide forever—will their chemistry be strong enough to keep Carter by her side when her secrets come to light?

My third foray into the Mills and Boon world. Maid of Dishonor by Heidi Rice is the thirs book in The Wedding Season from the new Mills and Book Modern Tempted line. Tempted? You should be.

Maid of Dishonor is a story with a lot of elements. You have Gina feeling guilty for her mistake a decade earlier when she slept with Carter Price. The brother of one of her best friends – Marnie. He was also due to get married in the following weeks and was ‘saving himself’ for his wife. Gina has always felt a bit guilty and sets about apologising. Carter thinking this is hillarious laughs at her and assures her the the eventual collapse of his marriage had nothing to do with her and in fact, if anything, she helped to show him who he really was.

However the intervening years were not easy for Gina. She had her own problems after that fateful night at Hillbrook and it has taken years to come to terms with the repercussions.

However that meeting one decade one shows one thing, the chemistry they shared hasn’t died and if anything they are more attracted to each other than ever.

Someone said to me the other day – Mills and Boon are still producing books? Like seriously?? My reply was Go read them!! I am telling anyone who will listen about this Modern Tempted line and in particular The Wedding Season. I think so far this has been my favourite of the four books. Its sassy, sexy and definitely holds depth. I think I could in part relate with Gina, having also lacked quality control in my teens – so to speak. Also being unfortunate to suffer a miscarraige I think I could relate to her in more ways that one.

Gina is a very strong character and has, in Carter, met her match. I love the sniping between them, it only adds to the chemistry. Even with all that hidden depth the story is fun, flirty and most definitely has spunk. It was so good I couldn’t put it down and I don’t think it would be physically possible for me to read it any faster. It was so good that I had to go straight away and buy Kimberly Lang’s The Last Groom Standing, the last book in the series. I want these ladies to come together and write more!!

I will be looking out for my titles by the wonderful Heidi Rice.

In Your Dreams

So here I am, another blog tour and another genre that I don’t normally read but hey sometimes you just have to take a step out of your box, don’t you!

    In Your Dreams

What it’s all about

What sacrifice is too dear when the reward is eternal love?

Disillusioned Afterlife bounty hunter, Sean Martino, is transferred to the Probation Department, where he counsels recent suicide attempters by sending them subliminal messages while they’re asleep. But he’s unprepared to match wits with former child star, Isabelle Fichetti.

It’s not every day a woman gets to date a dead man. Although Sean’s appearance in her life isn’t exactly a dream-come-true for Isabelle, she likes having him around for scintillating conversation and trips to faraway places–all while never leaving her bed. Still, after years of abuse and abandonment, and with no rosy future to look forward to, she’s not about to give up on her plan to kill herself just because he asks.

After breaking the rules one too many times, Sean is cut off from all contact with Isabelle, but not before providing her with a reason to live. Now, she’ll choose the path her future takes and confront her greatest fear. Alone.

Unless Sean can find a way to fight for her from the other side…

Paranormal is generally a no go area for me. I however signed on for this blog tour before checking the genre. Right there and then when that thought struck me I just knew that it was going to be a paranormal book.

HOWEVER I have to say it wasn’t what I have in my head for a paranormal and it really was very enjoyable. And its funny because the only other paranormal I have ever read was the Jamie McGuire Providence series and to say I loved that is an understatement so I really don’t know where my reluctance to read them comes from.

I suppose it was the story itself and not the genre that was the positive aspect here. I do tend to jusge a book before reading it based on cover, genre etc. But I guess when the story is good as it was in this case then it doesn’t really matter what genre provides the base.

Anyhow, who is to say that this can’t happen. I do believe I have been passed messages in my sleep. So maybe that was another bonus point. Either way if you are a fan of paranormal this book is a must read and if you aren’t well maybe just maybe you might consider giving this one a chance 😉

About Gina Ardito

I think I’m getting the impression that Gina is funny gal!!

Non-Standard Bio
Gina Ardito
I kill houseplants. There. Now you know one of my greatest shames. I’m not boasting. I just figure that if you’re reading this, you’re looking for more than how wonderful life is as a writer. So here are a few more of my flaws:
I sing all the time. I sing in the car. In the shower. While I’m grocery shopping. And I headbop while I sing. When I’m not singing, I talk to myself. Just ignore me and move on. You get used to it after a while.
I don’t eat my vegetables. Seriously. I’d rather have a cookie.
I’m extremely fair-skinned and could burn under a 60-watt light bulb.
I can’t sleep without background noise. If it’s too dark and too quiet, all I have are my thoughts. And even *I* don’t want to be alone with my thoughts.
Don’t ask me to Zumba, line dance, or march in the parade. I have absolutely no rhythm.
Regrets. I have more than a few.
My favorite activity is sleep. I don’t clock a lot of hours, but I powernap like a Persian cat and rejuvenate within ten minutes.
I consider shopping and dining out excellent therapy for anything wrong in my life.
My feet are always cold. Always. My husband claims it’s because I’m an alien sent to Earth to destroy him. (He might be right about that.)
Coming to my house for a visit? Unless you’ve given me plenty of advance notice, be prepared. My floor will not be vacuumed, there will be dishes in my sink, and I only make my bed when I change the sheets once a week (I’m climbing back into it ASAP. Why make it?) Housecleaning is not high on my priority list. Okay, to be totally honest, it’s not on the list at all.
I can resist anything…except ice cream.
Since this is our first date, I figure I’ve revealed enough secrets for now. But if you’ve read this bio and think I might be the author for you, pick up one of my books or stalk my website: http://www.ginaardito.com and my personal blog: http://ginaardito.blogspot.com.

Lauren Blakey’s Playing with her Heart’s new cover

So Lauren Blakely decided that the cover for Playing with her Heart just didnt portray the essence of the story. While I had no problem with the cover, I sure as hell LOVE the new one. Check it out for yourself and let me know what you think!

New Playing With Her Heart cover for Sept 19 reveal

ABOUT PLAYING WITH HER HEART:

From the NYT & USA Today Bestselling romance author, a sizzling and addictive story of a woman with a broken past and the man who can’t fight his attraction to her…

Twenty-three year old rising theater star Jill McCormick has built a life out of pretending. Pretending she’s happy, pretending she’s not haunted by the dark secret that shattered her world six years ago. But then she comes face to face with her new director – sexy, sophisticated, possessive, all-alpha Davis Milo. He tries to resist the actress he’s cast, but the attraction between them is too powerful, and soon their private rehearsals spiral into new, forbidden territory. The passionate connection, the intense chemistry is undeniable, and it hits them anywhere, and everywhere – in the theater, on the piano, in the limo, in the restaurant…But the tragedy in Jill’s past stands between them. Davis has walls too, so they can either face their fears together, or risk the deepest love and greatest passion either has ever felt…

EXCERPT:

From Lauren: “This short excerpt is from chapter 12 when Davis unclips Jill’s hair, and it served as the inspiration for the new look for the cover. To me, this short moment says so much about their relationship.”

He leans into the car, reaches for the seat belt, and pulls it across my chest, buckling me in. He’s inches from me, and he smells cold like the night air. But he also smells the way a man should at the end of the day: a little bit of sweat, a lot of work, and all raw power. He brings one hand behind my head and unclips my hair, letting it fall over his fingers. I tremble from his touch as a shiver runs down my spine. “I like your hair up and I like your hair down,” he whispers to me, breaking down all my resistance in an instant.

I can see this playing out if I do nothing—I’ll spend it rewinding this moment and putting it on repeat all night long. But I don’t want to go home with only a memory to feed my body, and I can’t stand the thought of this night ending too soon.

I make my choice. There’s only one choice. “Do you want to share?” I ask, praying he lives in the same direction.

“You’re downtown, right?”

I nod.

“Me too.”

Warrant for Love

romantic heroes

Today I am taking part in the Romantic Heroes Blog Tour. The Blog Tour is celebrating the books of the wonderful Sheryl Browne. This is the second of Sheryl’s books that I have read, the first being Learning to Love.

Warrant to Love

WfL

What it’s about

Love, blackmail, lies, adultery, entrapment.
Three couples in a twisting story that resolves perfectly.

Life for Paul sounds like your typical country song. He comes from a broken home, his wife is divorcing him, he’s got no place to live, he’s losing custody of his son, and his sergeant, who’s sleeping with his wife, is a loud-mouthed braggart who won’t let up on him – not even at work.

Leanne’s caught her (now) ex cheating on her again, but before she can give him the what-for, she’s wrongfully arrested for soliciting – by Paul and his partner. One thing leads to another and things could be looking up for Paul, except for Leanne’s friends – quarrelling mom Nicky and financial goddess Jade – have it out for her ex.

Leanne wants closure, Paul wants a home, and Nicky and Jade want revenge. Blackmail, lies, adultery, entrapment. Will it all work out in the end or will Paul uphold the law? It sounds like he needs a Warrant for Love.
Warrant for Love – Amazon.co.uk Amazon.com

What I thought

What a delightful offering from Sheryl Browne. Right from the start it was just one of those books that you get swallowed up in and suddenly that ‘just one more chapter’ turns into half a book. That half a book means there is no dinner when hubby comes home from work. Sheryl rights the every day hero so well. He isn’t Superman, Adonis and he doesn’t have any crazy fetishes or be blindingly good looking. He is your regular man on the street. I like this, it makes the book so very true to life. Paul could be any police officer down at your local station. OK he is battling some issues but again they are real life issues. They way Sheryl has him work though these issues is her gift. We get to see the more vulnerable side of our hero and sure if anything that only endears him more to us – right?

Leanne is your regular woman as well. Full time job, struggling to make ends meet – especially as the asshole she was dating has fleeced her out of a significant amount of money. She has a teenaged son and is worried about how she is going to come up with his university fees. Again these are you everyday problems. However leanne meets Paul, in very unusual circumstances and she asks him to be her lodger. Yeah yeah I know what you are thinking and yes you are right. But the interesting part of this scenario is their journey! It really is compelling.

We also get to meet Leanne’s sister Nicky and her husband Steve who are struggling through their own issues and with two teenagers and a toddler it is hard for them to find the time to sort things out. We also meet best friend Jade, complete Commitmentphobe. She doesn’t want a man in her life, however Saun wants to be in her life so we see how they come to an understanding.

Sheryl just has this way about writing that makes turning the pages of her books so effortless. They are always well written, void of any fluff or unnecessary dramatics. Really they truly are a joy to read.

Smitten’s Book Blog

in todays stop on the September feature we have Smittens Book Blog. She has something in common with a few others, guess who she would like to bitch slap…

Tell us a little about your blog

I started my blog in November 2012, after author Debra Anastasia (Poughkeepsie) urged me to do so, when she read my reviews on Goodreads. And I’ve never looked back. I enjoy blogging almost as much as I enjoy reading. I love creating visuals, including casting the characters for each book I read.
I read contemporary romance, avoid books with an unhappy ending like the plague, and I always try to be as honest as possible, keeping in mind what my blog followers would enjoy reading.
You can read my reviews at http://smittensbookblog.wordpress.com/ or find me on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/SmittensBookBlog

So which book boy are you most smitten with?

Argh, there are so many. I’m a total book whore. I have more book boyfriends than is socially acceptable, for sure. But I guess I’ve got to say my heart lies with Kellan Kyle.

What is your absolute favourite book?

That’s like asking if I have a favourite child. I hate this question. Lol. Fifty Shades got me back into reading, so I owe Christian and Ana a lot. The Thoughtless series totally rocked my world. But there have been so many great books over the last couple of years. The Sweet Gum Tree definitely deserves a mention as it deserves way more recognition than it gets… Also, Hopeless, Real, The Bronze Horseman, the Too Far trilogy, the Love Me With Lies series, The Education of Sebastian and Caroline, The Mighty Storm, the Crossfire series… God, I’m such a commitment phobe.

You can have any book boy for one day – who is it?

One?! Jeez. Errrm… I suppose I’ll have to go with Kellan.

Which female character would you most like to bitch slap?

Haha! Brilliant. Definitely Kiera from Thoughtless!

Paper versus Digital?

Both. I was so hesitant to get an ereader, but it’s the best thing I ever bought. However, if I love a book, I need it on my shelf so that I can stroke it when I walk past.

How many books do you read in a week?

I try to read 3 or 4 books a week. I get through more in winter, less in summer, due to ‘real life’ work commitments.

How do you strike a balance between the books you have to read and the ones that you want to read?

I have a waiting list for my R2Rs (Read to Review) and I got through them systematically. And I have a list of ‘pleasure reads’, books that I’ve bought, that are sitting on my Kindle, waiting to be read. I usually do two R2Rs and then one or two pleasure reads. Obviously, I’m not always that disciplined, but that’s the general idea.

Have you ever waited ages for a book only for it to be a disappointment?

Yes. I’m going to leave that there. Lol.

What series would be your favourite?

Lol, yeh, I think I’ve answered this question already.

What character do you love to hate?

Oooh, I think Anthony from Aleatha Romig’s Consequences series… He totally messed up my head. I didn’t know whether to worship him or hire a hitman.

If you could read a book again for the first time what book would it be?

The Bronze Horseman, I think. Or maybe The Sweet Gum Tree.

What book would you like to see made into a movie?

The Mighty Storm and Weathering The Storm would make a great film.

How to Win a Guy in 10 Dates

Banner

Hello there everyone! Welcome to my stop on the How to Win a Guy in 10 Dates blog tour.

How to win

What it’s about:

The 10 Date Challenge
Day 1: Take one loaded commitment-phobe explosives expert, embarking on the impossible–a challenge to have ten dates with one woman.

Day 5: Add in a fiercely independent and feisty burlesque teacher who has sworn off men.

Day 10: She’s so not his type and he’s so not in her life-plan. But the heat is sizzling and the attraction is explosive. And they’re fighting it all the way….

Note to self – read the blurb!

I was in for a surprise when I read this book. I read most Harper Impulse books, I absolutely love the line and as I said before they really are knocking it out of the park lately. The fact that their titles are being brought by Harper over to America backs up what I have been saying all along. Well done all! Anyway, as I was saying I read most Harper Impulse books so I had this loaded up on my Kobo and on my TBR list. Then I got an email about this blog tour so I signed up, sure I was going to read it anyway. That turned the book from one I was probably going to read into one I had to read. SO…..I didn’t bother to read the blurb. Sure what’s the point. Sometimes I like to go down the ‘don’t judge a book by it’s cover route’ and give myself no expectations.

What I thought I was reading; A fluffy romance novel. Kind of corny in places but a nice read.

What I actually read: A hot as hell, sexy and exciting story! A leading lady with a bit of sass and alot of internal conflict – a man doesn’t fit in with her life plan, so why is he fitting in like a missing jigsaw piece? A leading man that you just want to eat for breakfast with his own internal conflict. He doesn’t need a woman – so why the hell does he want her so much.

The trials and tribulations of Millie and Ed are highly entertaining and may leaving you em, what can I say, wanting? Yea that’ll do – if you know what I mean 😉 How to Win a Guy in 10 Dates is a cheeky little story that will grip you from start to finish. It’s not the first time I was surprised after reading a book, but it’s probably the first time I was so brilliantly surprised. I loved the one liners, the humour, the intimacy and the raciness. I just loved the whole damn book. Well done Jane Linfoot on giving us fluid and easy going read! This book was simply an effortless read.

All Booked Out

Welcome back, did you all have a nice weekend? It’s a pity it always seems to go so fast. Though it being Monday means that we continue on with the September feature. Today is the turn of All Booked Out.

Tell us a little about your blog

My blog was started fairly recently, July 2013, only because a health issue has allowed me to read more (yes!!!) I love reading, have all my life, i love the smell, feel, look….here i go waffling!! Anyway, I wanted to share that and share Authors work, their covers. I am amazed that they can get their stories out of their heads and thank them for the many hours they have given to me and millions of readers who escape into these worlds they create for five minutes to hours a day. As an only child, I think Books were a very important part of my early childhood and are a part of some of my early and happiest memories.
I don’t go into in depth reviews, as i don’t let reviews sway me so would not want one of mine to sway someone else. It is all personal choice.
I also share my other interests which are Photography and digital design.

On average how many books do you read a week?:

I read on average 1-3 books a week..

What is the last book that made you cry?

Out Of Breath: Rebecca Donovan

What book would you like to see made into a movie?

Everyone i have read last, but some are already in the pipeline…..so Playing With Her Heart by Lauren Blakely. One scene i can already see on the big screen, it is a hero moment!

What book girl would you like to bitch slap?

Tough one as the main characters all have their reasons for being that way, I like all the main characters….they all need a damn fine shaking every now and then, so who needs that the most…..
Emma at the end of Barely Breathing, that was a cliffhanger that made me want to bitch slap her, shake her and scream at her to go back!!! go back!! But then what would I have just finished reading??? I do like to be tortured with cliffhangers 😉

What book boy would you like to have your way with ;)?

A Million Dirty Secrets

Million dirty secrets

For fans of Fifty Shades of Grey and Bared to You comes a wickedly erotic new novel of innocence, desire, and unbridled pleasure.

Delaine Talbot has a secret. When a matter of life and death threatens to tear apart her family, Delaine makes the ultimate sacrifice. She auctions herself off at Chicago’s most exclusive erotic club. Now she belongs to Noah Crawford, a wealthy mogul who introduces her to a seductive feast of the senses, awakening desires she only dreamed about.

Noah doesn’t know why Delaine sold her body for a cool two mil. But it’s the perfect business arrangement. The inexperienced beauty will learn to satisfy his every sensual need, yet never touch his heart. Almost immediately their relationship generates heat—in more ways than one. When they fight, they take no prisoners. When they love, they show no mercy. When they’re together, they never want to leave each other’s arms. But soon, their intense, physical bond will take an unexpected turn—evolving into something neither has bargained for: the promise of a lasting love.

Ah yes…I do love a good book.

I have to be honest here and say A Million Dirty Secrets wasn’t even on my radar. As you know my TBR list is manic and there really aren’t enough hours in the day. BUT my sister in law read this, told another family member who read it and they RAVED about it. They were also talking about it – alot. If you remember my reason for reading FSoG it was because everyone was talking about it and I don’t like to be left out. I pushed everything else aside and got my teeth into this book by C.L. Parker.

I read something somewhere else and it said Fifty Shades meets Pretty Woman and I thought that was a fantastic description. I started reading yesterday and unfortunately fell asleep while reading last night so I wasn’t finished until this morning. AMDS is a racy little read, definitely a sexy read. There is a lot of internal conflict with both characters and they spend alot of time burying emotions and hiding behind a facade. We get to see that if they didn’t burying those emotions and talked about their feelings there would be alot less mixed signals and well…maybe it wouldn’t have ended just quite the way that it did.

An awesome read, gripping. I didn’t want to put it down, and bar falling asleep I didn’t really. It had just the right amount of everything; Angst, sexiness, characters butting heads, fighting against themselves and plenty of sex. Absolutely loved it, I just can’t believe I (along with everyone else of course) have to wait until next year for the next one. I am not known for my patience. However, if its anything like the first I am sure that it will be worth the wait!
