Drake Stevenson – The interview

An interview with Demon’s Wings Rock Star Drake Stevenson

Who is Drake Stevenson?

Guitarist for Demon’s Wings. Husband to Lana “Angel” Daniel Stevenson. Ex-drunken screw-up.

Now you are not only a Rock God but a television personality. How is that working out for you?

Better than I ever thought. At first it was about having a reason to be closer to Angel. But it has become more than that for me over the last few season of the show. I saw a group of rocker hopefuls, men and women that were struggling to get their foot through the door that had real talent and even potential talent, and I wanted to help them.

You have lived life on the road for more than ten years, then settled in California. How are you finding the change to New York? Is this where you will stay?

The coastal change hasn’t been too much of a hardship for me. Having grown up in Ohio this isn’t so drastic for me.

Is it strange to be living so far apart from those whose pockets you have lived in for your whole life?

Being so far from Emmie, after having spent so many years with her being right beside of me, now that has been something of a challenge to get over. It was like leaving a little piece of myself on the West Coast. But now Angel and I have a condo in California so it has gotten easier for me deal with. We plan on splitting the year up between the two cities.

How have your priorities changed over that last year?

I wouldn’t say they have changed all that much. Angel is and always will be my number one priority. I have just had to expand them to include the new addition to our little family. I’ve stepped back from the band for an indefinite time, just as Jesse has now that he has the twins coming. It doesn’t in any way mean that Demon’s Wings are over! We are all just taking some time to enjoy the lives we have found.

Your life has always been the band and your music, what does the future hold for you now?

The band and music will always be a part of my life, and the future holds a million possibilities for that part of it. But for right now all I can say for sure about my future is that it will involve me, Angel, and our child being a family.

We never thought we would see the day Drake Stevenson with any girl other that Emmie on his arm. She must be one special lady to stop you in your tracks. What does Lana have that no one else has?

I’m not sure exactly what it is that she has. Maybe she was born with the other part of my soul. All I do know is that the moment I laid eyes on her I found the one thing that had been always been missing from my life.

You spent 2 months in rehab. It seems to have had a positive impact, would you be where you are today without it?

Probably not. If I hadn’t gone through the rehab I would have still felt like I didn’t deserve Angel. Plus it forced me to face some things that I had been hiding from for the majority of my life. Not only with myself but with Shane. Rehab brought me closer to my brother.

Shane is here in New York with you. He hasn’t been seen out much. Is there anything you would like to share?

Shane has found a reason to stop all the crap he had spent his whole life doing. He has cleaned up his act and I’m proud of him.

What does the future hold for both you personally and Demon’s Wings?

Personally I am hoping to add a few more kids to our family. As for Demon’s Wings we are still on a break, but knowing Emmie she will have us out on the road in a few years. Probably a summer long tour with four or five buses just to hold all of the kids.

the rocker that needs me

The Demon…

I’ve been fighting my own demons for most of my life. The alcohol seems to numb the pain, but it never makes the nightmares go away. All I want in life is a little peace. When I met my angel it felt like I found it, but there is so much standing between us. Why does she have to be so young…?

The Demon’s Angel…

Meeting Drake was the best thing to ever happen to me. I found my friend, my soul mate. But he lets my age stand between us. There is something that haunts him, and I selfishly want to be the one that helps him conquer his ghosts. If he would just let me in, let me closer, I think I could help him…

Wow!! This is the third book in Terri Anne Browning’s The Rocker Series and I just loved it. Often with books as part of a series and especially one that is going to have as many books in it as this one you can hit a lull around the middle. Did that happen in this case? Hell NO. I think so far this has been my favourite book of the series.

Drake Stevenson is just so complex, we got an inkling of why in the earlier books but we had no idea of the full extent as to what he went through as a child. The only solace he seems to get from it is at the bottom of a bottle of Jack Daniels. It isn’t really though, all it does is to make him pass out. Everyone is so worried about him, especially Shane. He knows if his brother doesn’t find some peace that the darkness that haunts him is going to kill him.

When that peace turns up in the form of 17 yr old Lana, Drake is tortured. She’s too young, he can’t bring himself to do anything other than have a platonic relationship with her. She has feelings for him but will respect him. The two couldn’t be any closer. When Drake hurts her, really hurts her she decides that she needs to get away from him. If they are to have any chance at being friends she can’t watch him with other women. She packs up and moves to New York to go to college and Drake heads to rehab.

Months later Drake accepts a job on the judging panel of a TV Show that is going to have him living in New York. He needs to have Lana in his life, but can she put the past behind her to have him in hers?

I really am loving all these rock star books and this series is no different. I am glad I had to start at the start and was able to read the three of them back to back, i’m only sorry that I now have to wait for Shane’s story cos I just know it is going to be epic! I read all three of these books in a day and a half. I had to but that’s besides the point. You just want more, all the time. I didn’t crave this much when I was pregnant!

Take a sneak peek for yourself what is going on inside Drake’s head!

My head snapped around at the sound of that voice, and I was sure that my heart stopped in my chest when I met the whiskey colored eyes of an angel. Her long, midnight black hair was pulled back in a ponytail. Her brown-amber eyes were huge in her beautiful face. She had plump lips that were almost bee stung and a nose that was tipped at the end. The angel was tall, her waist long and slender, but she had curves that made my body ache to hold her against me.
This angel was young; I would say no more than twenty-one…Layla introduced the angel. “Lana, this is Jesse and that’s Drake. Guys, this is my seventeen year old sister, Lana.”
Seventeen. Seventeen. SEVENTEEN!
Seven-fucking-teen!
The number bounced around in my already throbbing head, and I thought I was going to go mad from it. No! Not seventeen. She had to be older. I couldn’t be attracted in a seventeen year old girl.
“It’s nice to meet you, Lana,” Jesse said as he stared at the angel.
I was fascinated by the pretty pink that flooded her cheeks. “Yeah, you too,” she murmured and glanced at her sister. “Layla, can you help me with something in the bathroom?”
The sisters left us alone in the living room, and Jesse dropped down on the sofa beside of me. “Dude, you look pale.”
I wasn’t surprised. I think I had actually felt the color drain from my face when Layla had said the word seventeen. I felt sick to my stomach for an entirely different reason than the ones that I had woken up to.

Lucky me, I got to not only interview not only Terri Anne Browning but Drake Stevenson as well!

Terri Anne Browning the interview

It was lovely of Terri Anne Browning to take the time to answers my questions, I must say I loved reading this interview and I hope you do too!

Who is Terri Anne Browning?

Author of The Rocker… series. Mother of three awesome kids. Wife to an amazing husband.

The Rocker series – Wow. Fabulous. Is Rock music a passion of yours?

Definitely! Rock touches my soul in a way that inspires me to write. A day doesn’t go by where Rock—or music in general—doesn’t playing a huge part in my life.

I hurt my hand you know, I slapped the wall when Drake was at that party in Axton’s. Was this planned or where the character took you?

A back track was something that I wanted to try and stay away from, but Drake kept taking me there. His addiction just got the better of the both of us.

Do you ever get mad with your characters?

All of the time! Drake was really stubborn at times, but he is nowhere near as bad as his brother. I have actually had to walk away from the story a few times because of it.

I see on Goodreads there will be at least 7 stories, I have to tell you that produced a happy dance around my kitchen. I can see Shane and Axton’s stories on the way. Is this Liam character going to be another?

Yes, Liam is going to have his own book with a leading lady that will for sure knock your socks off! He and the other members of OtherWorld, which you will possibly get a glimpse of in THE ROCKER THAT HOLDS HER, will definitely have a bigger role in Axton’s book which will lead up to their own books eventually.

(Cue more happy dancing)

I love how you keep all the characters from the previous books involved. Their story doesn’t end when their book does. As a reader this is important to me. Is it important to you as a writer?

When it comes to a series, it is a big deal for me. I get involved with the previous characters and want at least a small glimpse into how life has been treating them since their own books. Not everyone has a perfect life when the book closes, and I want to see how they are dealing with those challenges.

What has been the highlight of the series for you?

Getting to share it with everyone. Reading is a major passion of mine, and romance books in general has literally saved my life. So getting to share it with you and other readers is the biggest highlight of not only this series, but my life.

What was the hardest part to write?

With each one of these books I have come across some hard parts. The biggest for TRTHM was the abuse, and it has been something that I’ve had to work on all the way up to the current book I’m writing for the series. But with TRTNM it was the abuse and the ‘cheating’ scene in Vegas. I cried the whole time I wrote it, and still cry when I re-read it.

Are you a little bit in love with your rockers?

Some of them I will say I have more of a crush on, while other’s it is full on book-boyfriend-I-want-to-marry-you-and-give-you-little-rocker-babies love! Jesse being the biggest of them. I have put a little of my husband in each rocker, so it’s little wonder that I’m not in love with them.

(I’m literally gushing here, that is lovely!)

Heaven is one of my all time favourite songs, does it hold a special meaning for you?

It has always been a favourite of mine. Something that I have always thought of as super romantic and has been part of my playlist throughout this series, so I wanted to incorporate it into Drake.

Other than writing what else do you like to do?

Reading has always been a passion. If I’m not writing then I’m reading. Finding new indie authors has become something of a must for me when it comes to picking a book these days. I have my favourite big time authors, but other than their books I tend to stay with the up-and-coming indie.

(I love indie authors, they rock!!)

Do you have a motto you live by?

Don’t give up on your passion.

What is the best piece of advice you were ever given?

Never stop trying. No matter what! All anyone can ever tell you is no, so keep trying until you get your yes.
