The Break-in by Aidee Ladnier
Busted Labs: Book Two

Synopsis

Ten years ago, roboticist Forbes Pohle received a visit from time-traveler Oliver Lennox. “Wait for me,” Oliver said. Now a decade has come and gone, and Oliver has returned. However, Forbes never dreamed Oliver would reappear as the point man for a gang of technology thieves breaking into his lab. He finds the younger Oliver just as sexy and even more annoying; still, he must convince him their happily-ever-after is meant to be—but he only has the time it takes his robotic cat Jeepers to thwart the thieves to do it. After waiting so long, he could lose everything in the span of seconds.

5 Quirky Things About Aidee

by Aidee Ladnier

I write about quirky characters because that’s what I know. I’m a pretty quirky individual myself. Here are a few things you might not know about me.

I’ve designed my own shoes

literaryshoes

I really, really like shoes–not high heels—flats. A friend made the mistake of telling me about a company that lets you design your own shoes. Sure enough, they had lots of heels and one template for flats. I immediately started tinkering and then ordered my author shoes. Here they are! Words are so pretty, aren’t they?

I’ve sent a ping pong ball into space.

pingpong

JP Aerospace, a volunteer DIY space program was raising funds to send ping pong ball sized science projects by elementary school children up to the edge of space in 2012. As a lover of all things science and science fiction, I gave money to the cause. In thanks, they let me put a ping pong ball in with those of the children. I ran my own ping pong ball sized experiment and got the thrill of seeing the video that included my experiment coasting in space among the stars. Here’s a picture of my ping pong ball before it went up to space. Which leads to my next quirky fact…

I fold so many origami cranes that I use them as packing material when I mail boxes

It all started when my computer began running slow at work. I would have to reboot often and I found I could make two origami cranes in the time it took my computer to restart. Then I began folding cranes in meetings to keep my hands busy so my brain could stay engaged (think of it like doodling with folded paper). Now it’s a crutch. Whenever I’m stressed, I fold a bird.

Whenever I’m worried, another crane appears. I have to say, my Christmas gifts to my family are enjoyed as much for the crane packing material as they are for the gifts.

One of my poems inspired an indie pop song by the band Correatown

As a thank you for supporting her album on Kickstarter, Angela Correa offered to write a song for me. She asked what I’d like to provide as inspiration and I gave her a love poem that I wrote for my husband. The song that resulted was beautiful and I gave it to him as an anniversary gift that year. If you’d like to hear Distillery by Correatown, you can do so by going here: http://aideemoi.tumblr.com/post/26007891265/you-know-several-years-ago-i-was-divorced-over-a

socksI have an extensive collection of silly socks

There’s really no excuse for the socks I own. They are all colors of the rainbow, some have animals on them, some have strange shapes, all are fun. It’s wonderful to wake up not sure you’re ready to face the day and then put on some goofy socks. It changes everything around.

Of course there are other quirky things about me that didn’t make it into this list–several of them are listed in my bio, in fact. I’m of the opinion that adventures are everywhere. You just have to recognize them. So may the quirk be with you and remember, have fun today.

The Forbes and Oliver Playlist for The Break-in

I have to admit when I’m looking for songs to fill a playlist for a story, they have to meet one of two criteria:

The lyrics have to match what a character is feeling

The song has to capture the mood of a scene

That said, here are the songs I chose for this story and why. If you’re interested, I created the playlist on YouTube so you can listen to the whole set here: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLaf-IXveR9pUKgijDcluQcrnjwxiYpGz2

Moving On by Needtobreathe

I think this song captures Forbes at the start of the story. He’s waiting for his lover to reappear when their stars align but is contemplating moving on. It encompasses that kind of sad but inevitable feeling that you might be waiting for nothing.

Mission Impossible Theme

Okay, I know this is a pretty cheesy pick, but I am dead certain that Wilson, the self-appointed leader of the technology thieves, insisted that this music be played in the van on the way over to Forbes’s lab. Oliver was lucky he drove his own motorcycle to the scene, because they would have come to blows over the endless repetition of this song.

99 Problems by Hugo

I know the Jay-z version is more famous, but I love the almost folky sound of this song. This is Oliver’s song as things start to go south. He’s suddenly on the wrong side of both Forbes and the gang of thieves he’s working for.

Take On Me by A-ha

Shameless 80s guilty pleasure music. THE BREAK-IN is set in the near future, so I’m going to say Forbes has it in his music library because his parents listened to it.

Ruler of My Heart by Irma Thomas

I love the soulful sound of Irma Thomas. This is definitely a Forbes song. He’s waited so long for his lover to return and when he does, it’s not at all in the way he expects.

Jeepers Creepers by Frank Sinatra

I had to include this song. It’s Jeepers’s song! The little cat robot embodies this quirky little ditty. He probably plays it in the house whenever Forbes leaves—which could explain why he was so grumpy that Forbes blew off the blind date at the beginning of the story.

Do It Alone by Sugarcult

Forbes would understand this song. He doesn’t want to be alone anymore. He’s willing to beg Oliver to stay.

With you by Natalie Walker

The lyric “Love takes time and time is on our side” is perfect for THE BREAK-IN. Forbes definitely found his life changed by Oliver and as a result his love didn’t fade despite time and circumstance. It’s a sappy song but those are okay sometimes.

Life Less Ordinary by Carbon Leaf

This song embodies Forbes and Oliver’s relationship. They are somehow a lot less ordinary together and together they will have an extraordinary life.

Little Wonders by Rob Thomas

This song is for the end of the story. The hardest part is over for both Forbes and Oliver. The twist and turns of fate have left them exhausted and time has fallen away. It’s definitely the heart that really matters in the end.

All Will Be Well by Gabe Dixon

This song is my song. As the author, I want to tell my characters that all will be well but only time will tell. There are a few more Forbes and Oliver stories to come.

Incandescent, By: River Savage

10454290_1434957670103810_4417139872160989595_nI enjoyed every single word the author wrote in Incandescent. I adored each character and look forward to seeing these characters in the author’s work later.

The cover is artistically done right. The cover attracts my attention and fits the story.

I don’t like sharing the plot, because I feel as a reader you need to discover the story on your own. The author’s back cover is enough to attract the reader’s attention.  Plus I am tired of seeing reviews go over every little detail with the plot and giving it away. Why would I want to read it the book then?

Sorry I made left turn there and went on a little rant about peoples’ reviews giving away plots.

Ok, I am back on track.

How do you know if this book is for you?

Ask yourself this. Do you like hot sex scenes that make your inside tighten with want? 10427358_1436192619980315_8417443114804246197_n

River Savage did an outstanding job in writing hot, sweet sex scene that make you crave Nix, wishing he wasn’t a character from the book.

Do you like bikers and tattoos? River Savage did a very impressive job in keep the motorcycle club real. It did remind me of Sons of Anarchy, but I love that show and if you are drawn to that show you will be drawn to this book very easily.

Teaser 2 New

You almost feel like you are the main character Kadence at certain times and yes, I want Nix.

The structure of the whole book is very easy to follow, the words flow smoothly that you really do become engrossed in the book that you cannot stop reading it.

10473131_1434957743437136_7234892739106952281_n

I started Thursday night a little before 9pm. I thought to myself that I would read five chapters and continue on the next day. However, I could NOT STOP. I was wrapped in Kadence and Nix’s world. I finished the book around 1am Friday morning. I woke up thinking about thinking about the book. Heck, I even went to sleep thinking about how hot Nix was.

10446722_1431889237077320_5493883252870145641_n

Incandescent is a fantastic story line, enjoyable characters and sweet, sassy and hot sexy scenes. I want more and need more books from this author.

10505297_1434584130141164_1262619890714289547_n

Is the book worth the money? YES! YES! YES!

Nix might be your next book boyfriend.

Fifteen minutes later, the whole sordid mess had been spilled between them and both her friends stared at Molly with a mixture of horror, amusement and curiosity.  “Well, say something!” Molly yelled when neither of them said a word.  “You’re supposed to be my sounding board, ladies!”

“You’re engaged,” Sami managed to choke.

“To the Devil,” Viv sputtered.

“It could be worse, right?” Molly questioned, looking from one woman to the other and back again.  “I mean, he’s not so awful, is he?”

“He’s the Devil,” Vivian breathed, her brown eyes huge on her pixie face.

“That’s not helpful, Viv,” Molly huffed, holding her bottle tucked tightly between her breasts as she sat cross-legged on the middle of her couch.  “His nickname is Devil.  He’s not really Satan incarnate.”

“I’m gonna need a hit off that vodka bottle before we go any further,” Sami warned, holding out her hand and wriggling her fingers.

“You’ll have to wrest it from my cold dead hands,” Molly replied, tightening her grip on the mostly gone liquor as she shook her head, red hair flying wildly.

“You hold her down and I’ll pry it out of her hand,” Vivian said under her breath, only half joking as she eyed Molly.

Snorting, Sami ran a hand through her naturally wavy locks.  “Well, let’s look on the bright side.  At least he’s got the whole eye candy thing going on for him.  You may have to look into the face of evil every morning across the breakfast table, but the view will be pretty.”

“What am I going to do?” Molly groaned, leaning her head back against the cushion as the throbbing in her head increased.

Shaking off her shock, Viv straightened in her chair.  “Well, first off, don’t panic.  Devil can’t actually make you marry him.”

“No, but he can coerce the hell out of her,” Sami argued, frowning at Vivian.  “I mean, you heard her, Viv.  He’s holding his dying grandmother over her head, for crying out loud.”

“Devil!” Molly squealed, gripping his neck as he hauled her into his arms and turned toward the stairs.  “What are you doing?”

“If you think that I’m going to make love to you for the first time on the living room sofa, you have drastically underestimated me,” he replied, taking the steps two at a time.

Molly gripped his shoulders as he carried her like she weighed nothing more than a bag of flour.  Swallowing hard as her heartbeat sped up, she suddenly realized that this was really happening between them.  Dozens of doubts flooded her mind, but every single one of them fled as he walked into his spacious bedroom and placed her in the center of his huge bed.

Licking her lips as she watched him kick off his shoes and push his slacks down over his lean hips, she caught her breath.  His body was ripped perfection.  Toned well muscled arms, hard lickable six pack, firm thighs… and the longest, thickest cock she’d ever seen in her life.  Letting her eyes drift over him again, she blinked as she noticed a small tattoo just above his hip.  “You’ve got a tat?” she asked, sitting up on the bed so that she could caress the small Celtic cross that he had on his skin. “Straight laced, serious Devil Delancy did something daring?” she teased, peeking up at him through her lowered lashes.

Chuckling, he brushed his fingers against her jaw as her fingertips traced the cross on his hip.  “One very drunken night in college a very long time ago.”

“It’s pretty,” she praised, leaning into his hand as she noticed his bobbing cock close to her lips.

Following her gaze, his lips curved wickedly.  “I really hope you’re talking about the tat and not my dick, sweetheart.”

“Hmmmm,” she hummed, pressing a finger to her lips as she considered both.

“You are truly hell on a man’s confidence, Molly Ramsey,” he growled, gazing down at her as she smiled up at him.

“As far as I know, confidence has never been an attribute you lacked,” Molly replied with a giggle, lifting one hand to caress him again.  “But if you really need to have your ego stroked, I’ll do my best to comply,” she promised softly.   His low groan of approval emboldened her and she slowly brought him to her mouth, brushing her lips lightly against the flushed head of his cock.  Inhaling deeply, she gazed at his sizeable arousal and shivered as she thought about him filling her.  Darting her tongue out to sweep against his tip, she heard his harsh indrawn breath.

vos excerpt

“My name is Leonardo. Please, do not come any closer.” The voice changed locations without stirring a single branch or crackling a single dried leaf.

Rachel turned, scanning her surroundings. “Why won’t you let me see you?”

“Do you need to see to know you are safe? Is it not enough that you are well after hours of unconsciousness?  Surely, if I intended to harm you, I would have done so already.” Without menace, the voice changed locations again, now almost directly behind her.

Rachel turned, scrutinizing the fading shadows for an outline, a hand or foot, anything to provide a hint of identity. “Yes, but then, how can I thank you for saving my life?”

“There is no thanks needed, but you have just done so without seeing me at all.”

Rachel glanced to the trees, noticing for the first time the tanagers and morning jays no longer sang. Only stark silence, a forest frozen with anticipation. Rubbing her arms, she dropped her gaze. Why does it feel so hard to breathe?

“You should leave now. There is nothing to fear in the sun – the Others hunt only at night.”

“The Others?” She slowly rotated, waiting for an answer or a clue, wondering if she was speaking to a ghost.  She almost smiled at the absurdity of the thought.

“Go south, following the slope. The thickness breaks in a couple miles. When it does, go east along the stream. You’ll come across a marked path which will lead you home.”

Rachel’s stomach swelled into her chest. “How do you know where I live?” Watching her, following her, made him a stalker. A threat.

A charged lull passed. “Do not come into these forests at night.  They are not safe.  And I can not guarantee your safety.”

“Hey Alex! Which way are we going with this?” Mason, the youngest of the crew at only twenty-four, interrupted the tirade of thoughts, the final roll of fencing forcing a heavy lean.

He pointed westward. “Head out that way first, then we’ll wrap back around.”

“What’s the story between you and Ms. Lockhart?”

“There is no story. We’ve been friends nearly our entire lives.”

“You’re lucky man. She’s sure something to look at.”

Alex’s nerves pricked. “And your boss. Remember respect.”

Mason grimaced as he concentrated harder than needed at the fencing. “Sorry. Didn’t mean nothing.”

“Maybe not, but keep that kind of talk for some place else, not here.”

“Sorry,” Mason repeated and then fell silent.

Alex sighed. Time to start dating again. Cami wasn’t the right one, despite how he felt about her. If she was, she’d be his. Playing the field would help him find the one, whoever she was. Then he could settle down, start a family.

And there was nothing wrong with always being there for a friend.

Rescued By The Pack, By: Leah Knight

22819408

Hmm….  It’s hard to find words to even begin describing the disappoint of this book. Boring. Childish. The dialog between characters was weak. There were no words that pulled me in and made me feel this book was creating a new world. I could go and just rip this book apart. As a reader I wanted to stop after chapter two, but I force myself to continue on. After a few more chapters I started skipping chapters. I got to the point where I just gave up, I stopped reading. I did not finish this book. I could not torture myself any longer.

Her Ride, By: Rachael Orman

21843709Rachael Orman knows how to write hot sec scenes. Ok, with that said lets me on to content and characters. At first I did not like her main character Ryan aka Shannon Ryan. I was annoyed and irritated with the character. I was literally rolling my eyes and I wanted to slap the character and place her in check. Maybe because the character was written well, a little to well because this character actually reminded me a of a person I use to know. 10432397_580497228732360_87149174_n

Once the Ryan set out of her trip to D.C. I started enjoying her more. I started to see her in a new way. I believe that was kind of the point given in the book. Ryan had to leave her home to be who she is because the biker club life made her act differently, she had to put on a whole new different front living in her old house with her biker club member brother.

As I read on, I kind had an inner hunch that there was something else going on with Ryan. Maybe it’s my detective skills but to me it was easy to guess. However, I did like the direction of the story.

Great creativity for biker club name. The negative remark would be not to call the club a gang, due to the fact motorcycle clubs do not like being referred to as a gang. Maybe if a character said it that was not part of the club that would be different.

Great nicknames for club members.

And…Please remember very hot sex scenes.

I look forward to reading the next book part of this series, which will be Patrick’s story aka Wrench.

Is the book priced right? YES!

Worth the read? YES!

Theirs (The Bears #1), By Hazel Gower

This was my first time reading a shifter romance book in the paranormal department. I loved the idea.
Some scenes in the book would sizzle more if the dialog was written a little better.

The main character Suzie lacked detail. Who is Suzie?  We kind of get a little bit of information of her past but not much. I know what she does for a living; writes romance books and runs a daycare/preschool. That stuff was just thrown into the book. Her family was thrown into the book and left us hanging on what happen and why. To many question and unfinished scenes in the book.

***If the character is going to be thick and curvy, please use a model that is thick and cury. I love a cover that matches the story***

However, I never give up on an author over one book. So I did try book two. Inwardly as I read book two I cringed. Both books felt rushed. Maybe some stories should not be short stories. I think the author has a great idea but needs to elaborate more, give us more.

Do I feel the price in justified for a very short incomplete story? No, I really do think the first book should be free or all three books should be a buddle pack.

I really felt like this was a waste of money.

Not sure if I want to read HERS. Maybe, just for closure.

Ours (The Bears #2), By: Hazel Gower

I enjoyed the author’s idea of shifters. I liked the idea of the bear family. But I was hoping with the second book there would be a little more to it. Some scenes in the book would sizzle more if the dialog was written a little better (“Theirs” & “Ours”).
In the other book (Ours) different plot but it felt that the author used the same sex scenes from the other book and just switched characters.
The main character Sandy. Who is Sandy? I know one thing about Sandy and to me she was a bit to annoying. I started rolling my eyes from her stupid actions.
I didn’t feel like I connected with any of the characters.

I guess some short stories work and then some just don’t. And when I mean the story doesn’t work, I just think it needed more detailed and should not have been a short story.

These two books “Theirs” & “Ours” is a very easy short read.

Plus if these main character women are chunky, why isn’t there a thick model on the front of the book?

The author can write about weight but won’t place the right character picture on the cover. Misleading.

I was actually disappointed about these two books, I don’t think the books should be selling at the price it is. Maybe the first one should be free and the other two $0.99 each.

I really felt like this was a waste of money. But it did introduce me to a new type of paranormal romance.

Due to this being a short story I do not want to give away scenes in the book. The love triangle that is created and chemistry between each character is great. Again the scenes flow easily and smoothly to the next.  I want more, so therefore on to the next book my Charlie Day.

Fury: Children of Kria, By Charlie Daye

fury teaser 2Hmm… How can I describe a unique story as this one? Due to this being a short story I do not want to give away scenes in the book. However, the girl does fall in love with her best friend. But he is not what she thought.  I felt the girl’s pain and confusion towards a broken heart. The story moves and flows smoothly onto each scene. The end of the book makes me want more and I do hope there will be more with the new characters that are introduced towards the end. I know how I would like to see the story continued on, but I am not the writer and this writer is very creative. So I shall wait and see and I know I will not be disappointed.
